Coalition for America’s Families Launches New Web Site

[Middleton]

The Coalition for America’s Families (CFAF) announced the launch of a new web site today called DoyleforSale.com.   The site highlights media coverage of on-going state and federal investigations into potential corruption in the Doyle Administration and includes an extensive list of newspaper articles along with facts sheets and audio and video coverage of the Governor and his top aides.

“Make no mistake, Governor Jim Doyle is running away from his record on ethics,” said CFAF Chairman Steve King.  “Even as the Governor and his aides continue to be investigated by state and federal prosecutors, Governor Doyle is airing a television commercial saying he’s spent his whole career fighting to clean up corruption,” continued King.

King said, “Wisconsin taxpayers need to know the truth about their Governor and what he has done to our state’s once proud reputation.  That’s why the Coalition for America’s Families (CFAF) has created DoyleforSale.com.

State and federal prosecutors are investigating whether the Doyle administration steered a state travel contract to a firm whose executives gave twenty thousand dollars to Doyle's campaign.  In addition, prosecutors are looking into whether campaign donations to Doyle played a part in the Public Service Commission’s decision to allow the sale of a nuclear power plant in Kewaunee, as well as allegations that Doyle’s administration gave a sixty- eight million dollar building contract to a firm whose employees contributed fifty-one thousand dollars to Doyle’s campaign.

Coalition for America’s Families Announces Radio Campaign

[Middleton]

The Coalition for America’s Families (CFAF) announced a statewide radio advertising campaign starting

Tuesday. The ad highlights several instances where lucrative state contracts were awarded to Doyle campaign

contributors. The contributions raise further questions as to whether the Doyle Administration is using state tax

dollars to reward his biggest financial supporters.

The Doyle Administration is still under federal investigation for corruption involving the Adelman Travel deal and

potentially other state contract awards.

CFAF President Steve King said, “Despite the indictment and conviction of Georgia Thompson for steering a state

contract to Adelman Travel, Governor Doyle continues to raise tens of thousands of dollars from out of state contractors

seeking to do business with his administration.”

“Governor Doyle says he won’t tolerate ethical lapses. But records show a trend of meetings between a top administration

official and his campaign fundraiser, followed by large contributions in advance of, and following, the award

of several major state contracts,” said CFAF President Steve King.

Questionable contributions and contract awards include:

  • Equis Corporation employees contributed $22,500 and got a deal that paid $2.6 million plus a 25% commission on the sale of state property.
(cite)
  • Adelmen executives gave Doyle $20,000 and got a travel contract worth $750,000. A state employee was convicted of steering the contract to Adelman. ( cite)
  • Crowe Chizek officials gave Doyle $17,500 after they got a contract worth $ 6.7 million. (cite)
  • Berbe Corporation employees gave Doyle $12,500 and got contracts worth over $300,000.
  • (cite)
  • IBM salesmen gave Doyle over $11,000 and received over a dozen contracts worth more than $6 million.
  • (cite)
  • Oracle Corporation employees gave Doyle $3,250 within days of the corporation winning a no bid contract worth $29,000,000.
  • (cite)

“The actions of this Administration have caused a serious crisis of faith between Wisconsin taxpayers and their government.

There’s only one way to begin restoring that faith. Governor Doyle should return these and other questionable

contributions and renounce these apparent pay to play tactics immediately.” King concluded.

[Middleton] The Coalition for America’s Families (CFAF) announced a
statewide radio advertising campaign starting Monday, alerting Wisconsin
taxpayers to Governor Doyle’s strong opposition to the Taxpayer
Protection Amendment and urging them to contact their state Senator in
    support of the bill.

“Wisconsin is the 7th highest taxed state in the nation --- ten percent
above the national average.  Governor Doyle has vetoed a property tax
freeze three different times, and now he’s actively campaigning to
defeat the Taxpayer Protection Amendment.” said CFAF President Steve
King.  “Wisconsin taxpayers need the kind of relief the Taxpayer
    Protection Amendment will provide.”

The radio ad contrasts Doyle’s position on the amendment with that of
    Congressman Mark Green.

“This past Monday was tax day in Wisconsin,” continued King.  “While
Congressman Mark Green was traveling the state speaking out on the need
for tax relief, Governor Doyle was in Madison trying to put the best
possible spin on Wisconsin’s status as a tax hell.”

The State Assembly is likely to vote on the constitutional amendment
next week with the State Senate to follow thereafter.  “High taxes are
driving families and jobs out of Wisconsin.  We need the Taxpayer
Protection Amendment to restore fiscal sanity and bring taxes in line
with the taxpayer’s ability to pay,” King concluded.

    Taxpayer Protection Amendment

    Voiceover:

Wisconsin’s taxes are 7th highest in the nation and 10 percent above the
    national average!

That's a big price to pay and it’s driving families and jobs out of
    Wisconsin.

The good news is Congressman Mark Green is leading a drive to cap all
    taxes in Wisconsin

It’s called the Taxpayer Protection Amendment, and Mark Green knows it
will protect vital services and provide long-term tax relief.

Unfortunately, Governor Doyle and the teachers’ union in Madison are
scheming to kill property tax relief .

Mark Green wants to keep our taxes from going up.

    Governor Doyle doesn't.

He's already vetoed three property tax freezes.

Call your Senator today at 800 362 9472. Tell them to support Mark Green
    on the Taxpayer Protection Amendment.

Tell them to stop Governor Doyle from killing tax relief. Again.

CFAF LAUNCHES RADIO AD TO LIFT SCHOOL CHOICE CAP

[Middleton] The Coalition for America’s Families (CFAF) announced a radio advertising campaign in Milwaukee, starting Monday, alerting Milwaukee Families to the impending threat facing Milwaukee’s School Choice Program. “Without the Governor’s support, thousands of Milwaukee children will be sentenced to a failing Public School System where two-thirds don’t graduate,” said CFAF President Steve King.

Earlier this month the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released their plans for rationing the existing spots in the program. If the current enrollment cap stays in place, up to 4,000 students will lose seats in schools they have chosen and dozens of schools will face the prospect of closing. Three times Governor Doyle has vetoed bills that would have lifted the caps on the program.

“Governor Doyle has been playing with the very lives and fortunes of Milwaukee’s poorest children, and his failure to act will force up to 4,000 kids out of their current choice school. What’s more, dozens of schools will face the prospect of closing. We urge the governor to avert this crisis for Milwaukee’s children by lifting the cap,” said King.

The Milwaukee Choice program is a system where families at 175% of the federal poverty rate, or less, are given a voucher to enroll their child at the school of their choice.  A study by the Manhattan Institute found that while Milwaukee Public High Schools only graduate 36% of students, 64% of former MPS students enrolled in choice schools graduate.”

The ad, called Schoolhouse Door, was produced by Mikel Holt, editor and associate publisher of the Milwaukee Community Journal, and WTMJ talk show host Charlie Sykes with students from MessmerHigh School in Milwaukee. It aired on Sykes radio show last week. CFAF purchased the ad and will air it on WNOV-AM, WMCS-AM, and WJMR-FM in Milwaukee.

Coalition for America’s Families Announces New Television Ad

Middleton – The Coalition for America’s Families will begin airing a new television ad on Monday June 6th that takes issue with Governor Doyle’s proposal to raise taxes and fees to fund new spending programs like free health care for the partners of gay state employees.

The group’s Chairman Steve King says the Governor broke his word. “Governor Doyle told us he would balance this budget without raising taxes.  Instead he’s raised taxes and fees on items like nursing home beds, daycare, and healthcare by a whopping $368 million dollars,” said King. “Wisconsinites pay the 5th highest taxes in the country and we still went into this budget with $1.6 billion dollar deficit.  How did it become a priority to give free heath care to the partners of state employees?” King asked.

King says Doyle raided both the transportation and medical compensation fund for $800 million to pay for his increased spending plans. “His $800 million raid of these funds to pay for new spending of up to $13 million for domestic partner benefits demonstrates he’s lost touch with the average taxpayer,” King said.

The ad which will air in Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay refers viewers to a Coalition sponsored website, www.sickoftaxes.com  that enables them to send the Governor an email. “I hope people will log on and tell the Governor that too many of his priorities are all wrong,” said King.
